In fall, plants will stop growing and go dormant.  Sarracenia can withstand a 20°F freeze with minimal protection. When conditions are right, it forms a dense clump. It has a strong appetite for flies of all sizes. In winter, the leaves die back, and the plant develops a resting bud at the soil level.
