NEW Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0 - A compact new version of a popular favorite! INTRODUCTORY SPECIAL

The original Helix Skimmer has many great features that make it the "go to" skimmer at Practical Garden Ponds.    But some people are intimidated by it's 36" height. 

Enter the Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0, a compact version of the original with the same rugged construction, same solid leaf basket and floating weir for a fish safe combination, the same low profile and large opening.  But now ONLY 21" tall.   Fifteen inches shorter than the original.  

Both Helix Skimmers are strong and extremely durable. Made in the USA from heavy-duty Rotational Molded HDPE.  

Compact Profile

From the top, the Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0 is identical in every way to the original Helix Skimmer (which is still our favorite choice for horizontal submersible pumps.)     The fill height is still just 2" from the top of the skimmer, allowing you to have a clean pond edge and a fuller-looking pond. Since it doesn't require a lid, it can also be easily covered with a large stone or faux stone (such as the Atlantic Water Gardens RL30).

Effective Operation

The Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0 is perfect for external pump applications where the height of the original Helix is not a huge benefit.   There is still a solid round strainer basket that is modeled after swimming pool skimmer baskets. This time-tested, familiar technology creates a helical (spiral-shaped) flow that effectively traps debris. The rigid basket is tight-fitting, so that debris cannot bypass the basket. The basket is 8" in diameter and 8" tall, but the helical flow compresses debris into the basket, giving it higher capacity. The weir opening of the skimmer is 15", allowing for flow rates from 3500-6000gph.   We still consider a flow rate of 4500 to 5000 optimal.   

Fish-Friendly Design

Most skimmers have a weir door at the entrance to the skimmer chamber. Once they slip past this skimmer door, fish can become trapped inside. The Helix Pond Skimmer does not have a weir door, making it safer for fish. The floating weir inside the leaf basket sits right at the top of the water level, helping prevent fish from getting inside.

2.0 Options and Limitations

The Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0 is 21” Tall x 19” Wide x 18” Long.   While this works wonderfully for external pumps, there is not enough room in the compact skimmer for a tall vertical pump.   

There are three submersible pumps that have been tested and proven to fit easily into the  Helix 2.0.   Note:  We do not recommend purchasing this very compact skimmer for use with any other submersible pump models at this time.  

You can purchase the Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0 alone for use with any external pump or with any of the three submersible pumps listed in our package deals.  

If you need a submersible pump we recommend buying a package which will include the Helix Pond Skimmer 2.0, a quick release connection kit and the pump you select from these three options.   NOTE:  There is no check valve in these configurations. 

Package one is the Helix 2.0 complete with an Oase 5150 

Package two is the Helix 2.0 complete with a PondMaster Proline 4000 (stripped of its protective case as the skimmer itself provides the protection).  

Package three is the Helix 2.0 complete with a PondMaster Proline 6000 (stripped of its protective case as the skimmer itself provides the protection).  

We do not recommend buying this skimmer expecting to be able to use it with any other submersible pumps at this time (until further testing is done for a comfortable fit).
