Since these pumps are not self-priming, it is recommended to add a Leaf Basket Priming Pot to the pump (available below). This leaf basket will fulfill two purposes: it will protect the pumps from large debris that may damage the pump, and it will keep water in the pump to maintain priming when the pump is shut-off.
