Vantage Stain
Vantage Stain is a penetrating acrylic/alkyd blend. It has a very slight satin shine which gives your product a high-end finished look that does not peel and remains breathable to expel moisture trapped in wood. It has exceptional adhesion to any wood surface including treated or untreated.
Vantage Stain is an excellent choice for staining fences, decks, log cabins, barns, sheds, gazebos, outdoor furniture or anything that requires a premium long lasting finish.
Vantage Stain is non-hazardous, and very low odor therefore making it easy and fun to work with. It cleans up easily with soap and water.
Application Instructions
Temperature
The ideal room and product temperature is between 60-80 degrees. Warmer room air temperatures may cause the coating to dry too quickly at the edges of the spray fan causing a dusty over spray. Cooler temperatures will slow drying times. The Vantage Stain temperature should be similar to the room temperature for best results. Substrate temperature should be consistent with the room and coating temperature. The siding must be dry and free of dirt or dust. Consistent temperatures of the spray room, coating and substrate are important for the proper application of Vantage Stain.
Equipment
Spray equipment must be maintained and working properly for best results. We recommend using a 210, 312 or 414 Fine Finish tip. Fine Finish tips atomize the Vantage Stain into fine particles that spread out evenly giving a more consistent appearance . If you can’t use a Fine Finish tip you can also use any 411, 413, 511, or 513 tip. Rough sawn siding may require a larger tip size. Regular switch tips will leave slightly larger droplet particles which will take a little longer to dry . Equipment recommendations are general and can vary with the personal preferences and requirements of each person doing the application. We recommend that those doing the application experiment with different tips and find what works best for your situation and circumstances.
Application
We recommend a two coat application process. Apply a heavy coat of the Vantage Stain and wait about one hour or until it is fairly dry, then apply one coat of the Vitality Sealer. For higher durability and longer lasting apply two coats of the Vitality Sealer. Make sure to apply the Vitality Sealer in one to three hours after applying the Vantage Stain because it will soak in better. Rough sawn surfaces should always be back brushed to achieve the best penetration. Begin by making sure your sprayer pressure is correct. Spray a test panel and lower the sprayer pressure until there are fluid streaks at the outside edge of the spray fan. Gradually increase the pressure until the streaks go away. Make a note of the pressure for future reference.
Different sprayers may require different pressures so be sure to test a new or different sprayer before spraying a barn. Apply the first coat with even, up and down strokes holding the spray fan to overlap the previous pass. Fan width and coating volume may vary a little depending on your tip and equipment but with the recommended tip sizes there should be very little difference.
Ventilation
Ventilation of the spray room is critical for timely drying of the Vantage Stain. The spraying process of this waterborne coating creates moisture in the air that needs to be ventilated out of the room for quicker drying. Air movement needs to be through and out of the spray room, not just around the spray room. The best way do this is to have a fresh air intake of some kind, even if it’s a window or door, and exhaust fans at the other end of the room blowing air to the outside. The more moisture you move out of the spray room with ventilation the quicker the coating will dry. The less air you move through the longer it will take to dry. Humid and colder air will slow drying times.
